Our friends Josh and Jenny got married at beautiful Crystal Cove. Nowadays, cupcakes are pretty common at weddings, but two years ago this was not the case! Josh asked for Funfetti cupcakes, to which I made my own lemon-cream cheese frosting. Jenny (a girl after my own heart) wanted chocolate-chocolate! This was my first really big project. After I agreed to it, I realized that these cupcakes would be in their wedding pictures FOREVER! Not to mention I only had a double oven, which poses a problem when baking 200 cupcakes! As soon as the project got underway, the creative juices started flowing. I made shell candies to decorate the cupcake display table. I brought in my own accessories as well, such as the sea glass, starfish, and shells which really added a nice touch. I had to make them a small "cutting cake" to top it all off - come on, there needed to be SOME tradition in there! The result was a tasty success!

Josh and Jenny's Wedding Cupcakes
Our friends Josh and Jenny got married at beautiful Crystal Cove. Nowadays, cupcakes are pretty common at weddings, but two years ago this was not the case! What Says "Baby" More Than a Cupcake?
My husband and I have been so blessed to become an Aunt and Uncle! I never turn down the chance to make cupcakes, and I couldn't have been more thrilled to make them for these occasions! Cupcakes are perfect for Baby Showers - after all, they're essentially "baby cakes." They're cute, small, and oh so yummy!
These chocolate-strawberry cupcakes were made for my sister's baby shower. They were placed on the "Cookie Bar" - such a cute idea!
Pacifier Cupcakes for my sister-in-law's shower - chocolate with chocolate fudge Frosting. These lifesaver, jelly-belly pacifiers were super cute without being overly "baby."
These "fun" polka-dot cupcakes were for another one of my sister-in-law's showers. To go along with the color scheme, I did Funfetti cupcakes (who doesn't love Funfetti?!) with cream cheese frosting.
Welcome to Sweet Athena's!
Sweet Athena's is a dream of mine. I am a young, confident woman who lives in sunny Southern California with my handsome husband. I am a first year teacher and I love what I do! However, I have many other passions in life other than the one that "pays the bills." My passion for the arts has lived in me since I was a child. Throughout my life, I have tried to creatively express myself in things like painting, ceramics, mixed media, drawing, you name it! Recently, I've discovered my passion for baking and decorating - particularly cupcakes!
There's something uniquely artistic about the cupcake. Maybe it's the texture of the inner cake or the intricate swirl of the frosting. Maybe it's the most delicate addition or a touch of fondant that gives the cupcake just the right touch. Maybe it's the challenge of making such a small little indulgence beautiful and eye-catching, not to mention delicious! Cupcakes have come to be my relaxing and almost therapeutic artistic outlet.
My dream is to someday make Sweet Athena's a place where everyday people like you and me can go to enjoy the beauty of art. Imagine walking into a little cafe. You order a caramel latte and a cinnamon swirl cupcake to nibble on. You sit in a cozy chair, indulging in the little bite of heaven you've just consumed. A local musician plays the piano and sings his heart out in the corner of the cafe. Art work of local artists, (not trying to "make it", but satisfied with just "creating"), hang on the walls. You pull out a good book from your bag and begin to read. No one comes up to you and prompts you to leave. You simply sit and relax, enjoying this inexpensive treat before you have to get back to the daily grind.
It is a dream, but hasn't everything stemmed from a dream? Until the day Sweet Athena's can open her doors, I leave you with this virtual site where you can view my recent cupcake memoirs and tap into your artistic side. Maybe Sweet Athenas will provide cupcakes for your next big event? I've yet to come across one who doesn't love a cupcake...
